The National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI) of Racine County supports the proposed consolidated mental health services building announced by County Executive Jonathan Delagrave on March 13.

The center represents another historic step forward in the delivery of essential mental health services in Racine County.

We share the vision articulated by the County Executive of “coordinated, regional, high-quality services that will unite all facets of our behavioral and mental health service team.”

NAMI Racine County also commends the unity and innovation demonstrated by county elected officials and the Human Services Department while actively transforming and expanding mental health services in recent years.

Meeting the growing need for comprehensive mental health services is not solely a county responsibility. Governor Evers declaration that 2023 is the “year of mental health” in Wisconsin promises to galvanize support for critical state investments to expand mental health crisis services and programming geared toward youth experiencing mental health challenges.

Proposals to increase insurance reimbursement rates will also fortify and expand essential mental health services.

At the federal level, proposed increased investment in essential research into both the causes of mental illness and most effective treatments will establish additional pathways to recovery in the future.

We continue to advocate with all Racine County state and federal legislators to support these critical initiatives. Please visit namiracinecounty.org if you wish to learn more about these issues of critical importance to Racine County.
